Siobain is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience treating people with a range of mental health needs, individually and in group settings. Whilst she draws upon a number of therapy models, her approach is relational and ccollaborative.
Meet Dr Siobain Bonfield
Siobain draws upon therapy models that are dynamic in focus, which means they look to understand presenting problems or ‘symptoms’ in terms of their underlying cause. Working in this way includes exploration of life experiences in terms of patterns of relating, and how these patterns influence how we think, feel, behave, and experience ourselves and others. This deeper level work supports the development of a more integrated and cohesive sense of self, which is connected to greater psychological wellbeing, improved relationships and less distress. Siobain tends to work with people considered to have ‘complex’ relational needs.
Originally from the UK, Siobain worked in the NHS with adults and young people with various mental health needs before relocating to Australia — a place she now calls home. Since being in Australia, Siobain has held leadership positions in public mental health, which have included supporting teams and establishing treatment pathways for people with severe and enduring mental health challenges. She continues to support the growth of the psychology profession by providing supervision and therapy to psychologists.
